When I workout at home, most days my friend Kelly joins me. Today Kelly was exhausted from the demands of the work week, so we took it easy and did some yoga. Althoug
h it was a great flexibility workout, my brain missed the demands of a hard core workout. I tried to take Kelly’s dog for a run, but he was not as excited as I was. We made it about 2 miles before I took him home. It was exactly the sweat sesh I needed.
Mental and Hormone Pillar:
Post Vacation Depression is still in full force and compounded by the depressing yard of weeds. I am all out of sorts. I’m not usually such a negative nelly, but geez! I’m getting sick of myself. The Hubs mowed our one blade of grass and all the weeds. The yard was much more bearable after that.
On the bright side, we still are “kidless” for the weekend and we’re enjoying our time together.
My podcast about Health and Wellness had just hit 400 downloads after 5 weeks today. That is HUGE! I am so humbled by all the people downloading and taking the time to listen to what I have to say. Each of my listeners has a special place in my life. Thank YOU!
I had a great discussion today with a psychology graduate student about an article published by the UK Telegraph. The article states that since the mind is a powerful thing a person can “think themselves fit.” I agree to a point. The power of positive thinking is a real thing. Your mind will go where you take it. However, the problem I see is when people begin believing that they can ONLY think positive thoughts and take zero action to make their health and fitness goals a reality.
Will thinking about being a model make you one? A CrossFit champion? A marathon runner? Absolutely not. Hard work and dedication used in COMBINATION with the other health and wellness pillars will get you there. Thinking positively is only part of what needs to be done to achieve your goals.
I woke up this morning with very swollen joints. The only thing I can think of is the 1/2 piece of bread from Portillo’s or something in the dressing. I’ve been doing very well eating minimally processed, whole foods that are corn and grain free. I am wondering if I am more sensitive now that I have cleared my body from most of those items.
Food was still grab and go until we went to a party in the afternoon. They had all sorts of delicious items. Party food can be where a lot of people “fall off the wagon” of healthy eating. I am thankful that I have been doing this long enough that most parties are not a big deal. I ate Italian beef without a bun, a huge salad with fruit and nuts, plenty of cut up veggies, and chicken legs. There are usually healthier choices at a party if you take the time to look for them. I would have LOVED to have the mostaccioli, but it would have really upset my stomach. An upset stomach isn’t worth it to me.
Brain and Spine Pillar:
I’m still working on all the stretches the chiropractor gave me to do. I can defiantly feel the difference already. Here are the stretches if you’re interested.
