I’ve got this! (mostly).
Today was a breeze. The food is delicious and I am finding I am not hungry at all. Maybe that is mostly true. I did find myself hungry this afternoon, but I was out running errands after going to the gym and there was literally nothing to eat. What was new for me today was not having that HANGRY feeling.
You know the one. When you’re so hungry your head hurts and heaven forbid someone ask you something. If someone even looks at you it’s possible they will be walking around without their head. The shaky feeling and brain fog. All you can think of is food. Where to find it and how much you can stuff in your face just so the weird feeling goes away. Yep. That one.
That feeling we know and love is due to a drop in blood sugar. After you eat something that has a lot of carbs in it (good or bad), your pancreas releases insulin to help your body manage the glucose load. (Simple terms). If too much insulin is released, your glucose levels will drop. This is called hypoglycemia and it’s what causes those HANGRY feelings.
The food on the Ultimate Reset is very, very, very high in vegetables, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. There is some lean animal protein, but the majority of your nutrients and protein come from vegetables. Eating this way for the last three days has been challenging due to food prep, which I did, but very satisfying in terms of taste and quantity.
Missing one thing
The one thing I do miss is wine. Seriously. I am admitting it. I enjoy the taste and relaxation of wine. When I said I “mostly” got this Ultimate Reset is because I did enjoy a drink(s) on Day 3. My win comes not because I went off plan and had a yummy drink. My win is because it wasn’t wine. Hubs makes these delicious Brazilian drinks that I love. He was having one and we were playing Mario Cart as a family. I chose. Yep, I chose to enjoy a drink during all the family festivities. I will not feel guilty about it, I will not go off plan. It was a choice I am owning and tomorrow is a new day.
I won the battle with the hangries and lost with the drink. It’s okay. I’m a work in progress.
Do you struggle with being hangry? Keeping a food journal to see what foods are triggering your blood sugar drops is a huge help and easy to do.
